We have such a group of people around us, once full of energy and neat work, but do not know when to gradually become “confused”, frequently forget things, the mind is like a child. This is Alzheimer’s disease, commonly known as Alzheimer’s disease.

International Day of dementia

In order to better popularize and publicize the basic knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease prevention, spread the scientific lifestyle, and make the concept of “caring for health and preventing dementia” more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. In 1994, the international Alzheimer’s Association designated September 21 as world Alzheimer’s day at the 10th meeting of Edinburgh, UK.

Alzheimer’s disease discoverer

He is a psychiatrist and neuropathologist in Germany. In 1887, he received a medical degree from the University of weltsburg. The following year, he spent five months helping a woman with mental illness before entering the Frankfurt municipal psychiatric hospital.

In 1901, Alzheimer observed a patient, Mrs. aujster dieter, at the Frankfurt psychiatric hospital. The 51 year old patient had strange behavioral symptoms and lost short-term memory. In April 1906, when Mrs. aujster Dieter died, Alzheimer sent his medical records and brain to the kleppelin laboratory in Munich where he worked. He found senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in Dieter’s brain, suggesting that they may be closely related to the pathogenesis of the disease, and for the first time recorded microscopic changes in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.

On November 3, 1906, he delivered his first speech on pathology and clinical symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Later, he was named Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease has become a major disease threatening the health of human beings, especially the elderly. Up to now, more than 100 years have passed, and people still have not successfully uncovered the mystery of this disease.

Domestic situation

At present, there are about 5 million people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in China, accounting for one fourth of the total number of cases in the world. There are 300000 new cases per year on average, and there are usually more women than men. Women over 60 years old suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, which is two to three times that of matched men. From mild memory and cognitive impairment to the final vegetative state, the patient will experience several years or even decades.

Prevention and treatment of dementia

Despite the rapid development of medicine, the basic research on Alzheimer’s disease is very weak, lack of large-scale, stable research team and prevention and treatment plan.
